National Ayurveda Day

Ayurveda is India’s most ancient healing system. It has spread worldwide as innovative and adopted as complementary medicine.Ayurveda helps us understand our own unique nature according to the three doshas of vata, pitta and kapha, reflecting nature’s elements within us. It is an individualised system of medicine that shows us the right therapies for health and longevity – which differ by person.

Ayurveda Day is basically Dhanwantri Jayanti – the birthday of the father of Ayurveda. Dhanvantari is the form of Lord Vishnu, the protective aspect of divinity, who arose from the samudramanthana, the original churning of the cosmic ocean, as a gift of healing for all.His birthday is celebrated by the practitioners of Ayurveda every year, on Dhanteras, two days before Diwali- the Hindu festival of lights.

Health and well-being remains one of the greatest challenges in this computer age. It is time to acknowledge Ayurveda as one of the most important traditions of natural healing in the world. It is one of the greatest gifts of India’s profound spiritual and yogic culture.

We are also celebrating this great day to say Happy Birthday to Lord Dhanwantri. By honouring Dhanvantari we can open ourselves to the power of healing within us.

Date: 10th November 2023, Friday.

Why 21st June was chosen as International Yoga Day?

Every year in Northern hemisphere, the Summer Solstice falls on June 21st. It is the day when Day is longest and the night is shortest. It is the daywhen Earth is at its closest distance from the Sun on its orbit.
